Today the club is counting close to 1000 members and is established in the united Europe. It is a member of the Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen" (VDH) and the Fèdération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). It is the only VDH breeding association in Germany that is in charge of the Briard exclusively.
The club keeps a studbook and breeds according to the valid FCI standard. The BCD breeders endeavor to maintain and further improve the success in German Briard breeding of recent years. The club wants to offer not only a beautiful dog but also a dog of good health and steady temperament to you.
The breeding dogs must meet special requirements: They must have been awarded the conformation score "very good" by a specialty judge of the breed at least in three shows and must prove themselves in conformation as well as temperament at a club internal examination as to suitability for breeding. They also must be tested for hip dysplasia (HD) and CSNB.
Breeding and promotion of the Briard is one of the BCD's goal; the other one is the professional support of our members, breeders and individual owners alike. This includes:
| |
support and guidance of our members in all questions concerning the Briard |
| |
working events, where you and your dog can learn a lot from expert instructors |
| |
breeders' conferences, where breeding beginners receive assistance as well |
As a member of the BCD you receive the Briard-Revue, our club magazine that informs you about everything you need to know about the Briard, show system, club events and general cynological questions, on a regular basis. Periodical meetings give you the opportunity to exchange experiences. But most of all the personal contact to other Briard owners and breeders will help you to avoid mistakes in bringing up and training of your dog and therefore enjoy your Briard even more. Of course you don't lose out with sociability either. Just enter your dog in a VDH or BCD show. You will see how much fun it is!
